California School Hong Kong has taught a British-curriculum programme from Yau Ma Tei in Kowloon since 1992, taking pupils aged 6–19 from Primary 1 through to Form 7. The curriculum is British, examined through Pearson Edexcel, with IGCSE in Forms 4 and 5 and GCE A Level in Form 7, and the school is registered with Hong Kong's Education Bureau.

Akhter Pervez has been Principal since May 1992, a single tenure now past three decades. He came to the role from commerce, having spent the previous seven years as general manager of a trading firm handling sourcing in China and South Korea.

Annual fees run from HKD 22,000 in the first primary years to HKD 51,700 in Form 6, well below mainstream Hong Kong international school rates and positioning the school as an affordable alternative to the ESF and IB market. One parent praised the faculty and described visible progress in their child.

  • Online review pool is small. Two parent comments exist: one praised the faculty and described visible progress in their child, the other was a former student from 1999 reminiscing rather than reviewing.
  • The school is listed in directories but the full review write-up has not yet been published.
  • The positioning is consistent across sources: an affordable Hong Kong alternative to the ESF/IB school market, running an IGCSE and GCE A-Level pathway from a Kowloon (Yau Ma Tei) site.
  • Parent and expat signal specifically about California School is effectively absent. The thin pool, the low-fee positioning and the very small footprint mean parents should treat the school as an option to investigate in person rather than via online consensus.

Positives

  • Affordability. Sits well below mainstream Hong Kong international school fees, a draw for cost-sensitive families.

Considerations

  • Curriculum. IGCSE through F4-F5 and GCE A-Level in F7; smaller, less well-known British pathway.
  • Online visibility. Almost no independent parent or student commentary online; a directional gap rather than a verdict.

Leadership
