The school distinguishes itself through its integration of Franklin Covey's '7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids' program, becoming the first Malaysian school accredited to deliver this leadership curriculum in 2012. By 2016, SDIS achieved recognition as Malaysia's first 'Lighthouse' school for teaching leadership principles and creating a leadership-focused culture throughout the institution.

The school maintains unique cultural connections through its affiliated Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band, which trains on campus and includes students from age 11 alongside community members up to age 40. This 40-member ensemble, the world's largest Sikh bagpipe group, won the 2019 World Pipe Band Championships Grade 4B as the first Southeast Asian victor and recently performed Malaysia's first full-scale bagpipe concert at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS.
